Hymns and Letters

Though little known in her lifetime (1776-1805), Ann Griffiths is now widely regarded as being among the leading hymnwriters in Wales, and a major leading figure whose works speak strongly to a contemporary audience. Selecting music for congregational singing to accompany Alan Gaunt’s fine translations from the Welsh, Alan Luff has himself translated the letters, whilst Kathryn Jenkins provides a fascinating introduction to Ann Griffiths’ life and work in the context of her time.

It is hoped that this volume will ferment a growing appreciation of the achievement of Ann Griffiths among English-speaking lovers of hymnody both in Wales and beyond.
